What's a Cosmic Hero?

We’re searching for extraordinary students. Know one?

A Cosmic Hero is a student who we believe, without super strength or sonic speed, has the potential to change the world. We provide Cosmic Heroes with seed funding for a project to make the world a better place.

So how do we find our next Cosmic Hero? That's where you come in! Keep reading to learn more about who we are looking for. Then, submit your secret nomination.

Who are we looking for?

  • A 9th-11th grade student. (Note: Ideally, projects are finished before students graduate from high school.)

  • A student who routinely demonstrates superhero qualities: courage, kindness, selflessness, commitment, creativity, and innovation.

  • A student who has designed and implemented a project that is having (or has the potential to have) a positive impact on his or her community.

  • A student who is not your typical high school achiever, whether academically, athletically, or in traditional student body leadership positions.** We are looking for an unsung hero.

**Excelling in these areas does not disqualify a student from a Cosmic Hero Award. We simply want to emphasize that we are not looking for your standard scholarship recipients or students who are looking to pad their college resume. We are searching for students who think a little differently, have an unusually large heart, and have the potential to be world class changemakers.

What do you mean “secret” nomination?

When are nominations due?

As the eyes and ears for The Sidekick Collective, you now have a secret identity — an alter ego even — to protect. And like our favorite superheroes, we know it won't be easy to preserve this secret. You'll want to tell your fellow teachers or maybe even the student who you nominated. Don't do it! Secrecy is important to (1) preserving the element of surprise for nominees for The Sidekick Collective Cosmic Hero Award (2) making sure that the selection process is perceived as both fair (and fun). If you need to purchase Clark Kent style glasses to help remember which identity you are currently wearing, we fully support you.

Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis. To be considered for a 2019-2020 Cosmic Hero Award, nominations must be submitted by Tuesday, December 20, 2019 at 11:59pm PST.

Select nominees will be invited to submit a project proposal for consideration. 2019–2020 Cosmic Heroes will be announced in early 2020.
